Americans celebrate Independence day on the forth of July commemorating the events of 1776. America became America not part of England by signing the Declaration of Independence. It was signed by among others Thomas Jefferson, John Adams & Benjamin Franklin. Although commonly believed to have been signed on 4th July it was actually signed on 2nd August.
The declaration justified the independence of the united states by listing grievances against King George III. It has since come to be recognised as a statement on human rights and a principle of American politics and Constitution, with sentences like:
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
American Independence day is important to the American people.

We celebrated American Independence day with our American friends on Lagonave. Everybody decorated their bikes for a big parade. I spend a long time decorating my bike so it would be the best red, white and blue bike there. After the parade we had hotdogs and burgers for lunch in the WISH house. Everybody made a different dish that we shared.There was chocolate cake after and a birthday cake for Florence. It was a really good day.
