Right that's it, I'm ready to start blogging. I never thought I would be doing that.
We arrived to our new home yesterday, Saturday, afternoon. Weather is hot and sunny and fabulous for any holiday......not sure about working in it. Rebecca and I are feeling the heat, Julian and Ella seem to cope much better. Which is good really as Julian will start the setting out of the hospital and organising his work force, first thing tomorrow morning. His 40th birthday.
The girls will start school in the morning and I'm going to try and assist. The main teacher, Kate, is at home in Canada attending a wedding. Michelle, the other teacher will try to do all levels with my help if needed.
The Nurse, Lowell, who normally deal with the co-ordination of all the surgical and medical teams coming in from the states and the Uk and currently off in the US with his family. His wife, Robin, had surgery this week. I have offered to help with this task and as I know Lowell does not really have time to do it, I suspect it will stick with me if I can work out how to do it.
Everyone have been extremely welcoming and our little house is already looking and feeling like home.
The journey over was long but quite comfortable. Ella and Becca coped remarkably well with the 9hours to Miami. Then an afternoon and a night in Miami airport hotel before we flew to Port au Prince, PAP, Thursday morning expecting to do shopping. We were met by Dan and Joy on the 2nd anniversary of the earthquake, which meant all shops were closed and everyone preparing for memorial ceremonies. We were pleased to learn that although the journey to our new home would be prolonged by a day, we would be staying in the local hotel resort with swimming pool and restaurant.....!
A lovely young girl called Heidi stayed and played with the girls in their resort the following day and Julian and I were able to do all our shopping with quite a bit of help from Joy.
Finally Saturday morning the boat took us across the water to Lagonave and our new home. We are all unpacked and resting this afternoon before we start work and school tomorrow.
The girls have coped really well with all the changes and have both expressed excitement and relief of what they have found . I am very proud of the way they have dealt with this first stage of the experience. I'm sure we will have tears etc. underway, probably not just from the girls but I;m sure we can deal with it all together.
Much love
